We recently attended a family reunion in the beautiful state of Virginia. The mountains always seem to trigger the contentment of ‘being home’ in my spirit. This year I couldn’t help but notice-as the road twisted and turned around the mountains-with the bluegrass coming from the radio….that wonderful music seems to have imbedded the energy and majesty of the mountains within it! Does this music we love, have a soul? Yes, I believe so-it ‘rings’ with mountain streams and passing through the clouds-as the heavens kiss the earth. Ahhh..Life…re-energized!
Today, Aug. 20th-we are preparing to meet some folks from New Orleans! They are coming to hear ‘our’ music-interview a few folks-and to broadcast how the Bluegrass sound is doing here in the Metro Detroit area. I ask that you come on out and join in, supporting the music that speaks to the spirit of life, in all of us.
I know, most of you think of a festival as a time to relax, hear some wonderful music, and visit with friends; some friends that are now only capable of visiting during festivals and ‘special’ gatherings.
That’s where ‘we’ come in; The Festival Preparedness Team.
Not many of us, now-but we love what we do and for whom we do it. As those of you who come often to hear the music know-we are not about profit-but about giving….giving time and service to something, we believe, will be being enjoyed and learned and passed on for many more generations: Bluegrass Music.
Our next concern, is making sure all of you are comfortable and have everything at hand you may want, to make the enjoying of the music a memorable event in your life.
My son has been on a strange schedule where he works and I fell victim to ‘Shingles’ a couple of weeks ago. To use the accepted vocabulary of my youngest grandson;”Shingles suck” – so very true! Here we are-one week before the event-accomplishing (we hope) the bringing together of, time-entertainment and people for what will be, Mother’s last festival.
True, I about lost my bearing when I heard that. It is a fact that I didn’t want to ever hear, less accept-but realize, I must face. Nothing in ‘this time and place’ is forever. (Don’t get to comfortable-whever you are. Things change.) Whew!
Now that our ‘knickers are in a twist’ emotionally-we are on our mission with a gustO like we have never had! Cameras on hand to capture all that we can, to record the fact that, you are never to old to dream – nor to powerless to make them become a reality.
We know you all don’t get down to the Toledo area all the time, but a lot of our bands that play here are from the Toledo area and we love them! And when they got hit hard by some tornados first of June, we know that they need the help of all of our bluegrass community.
Curtis Lowe, a great bass player from the Toledo area, is organizing a big bluegrass concert benefit to help out. His own sister lost her house in the storm!
If you have a little time on Sunday, June 27th, 2010 and want to hear from great bluegrass and help out a good cause, please consider a little drive down to Delta, Ohio and help these folks out!
